Moving AI from concept to practice in pharmacy
Following her January 2026 cover feature, our own Megan McCaskill returns with a new post in RXInsider that details the deployment of artificial intelligence solutions in pharmacy operations and the practical lessons that Horizon has learned while implementing an AI-powered workflow assistant.
Titled “Meet Hal: How AI Automation Is Helping Pharmacy Teams Work Smarter, Not Harder,” the post describes the training and implementation of “Hal,” an AI-powered bot designed to assist with repetitive workflow tasks, while emphasizing the continued importance of pharmacist verification, staff judgment, communication, and human oversight.
Megan explains how AI implementation as an ongoing process of training, monitoring, exception handling, and workflow redesign. Rather than framing automation as a replacement for people, she highlights how technology can create capacity for more customer-facing, service-oriented work.
This practical approach reflects Horizon’s broader innovation philosophy: use technology thoughtfully, keep people central to the work, and focus the deployment of automation on the tasks where it can create the greatest benefit for staff, customers, and patients.
We also congratulate Megan her selection by RXInsider as an industry subject matter expert and we look forward to the insights she will bring to future thought leadership content.
